4th of July Guide for Keeping Your Dog Safe
Red dog for the red, white and blue holiday.
Every year, right after the fireworks of the 4th of July happened, we get calls from clients about their dog’s reaction to the lights, sounds, and vibrations of the local pyrotechnics. For many dogs (and some humans) the holiday can be tough. There may be overstimulation from gatherings of family, friends, and little kids who don’t always understand dogs. There may be random foods the dog usually doesn’t eat or decorations that change their environment.
According to Shelter Animals Count, this holiday has “the single highest intake day for stray dogs nationwide.” Our guide may not solve all your holiday issues, but it shares some guidance to help both you and your dog have a calmer experience this year. Below is our handout for 2026. You’re also welcome to download the PDF here.
